It doesn’t matter if it’s dead flat, or at full charge. It just won’t start up until there is some kind of current coming from the plug itself. I was also stunned when I did not know how to cope with the situation. But, I knew how to surf the internet so I searched through the internet.
Reasons Why Your Self-Balancing Scooter Won’t Power Up
- Bad battery or cell phone – This is a pretty common issue with hoverboards. Most brands don’t specify which brands of batteries they use. Certain batteries won’t work well with some hoverboards. If your self-balancing scooter will turn on when plugged in but not when you push down on it, then your problem might be bad or dead batteries.
- Bad charger or port damage – Charger issues are also fairly common with hoverboards. One thing you can try if your self-balancing scooter won’t turn on is to plug it into a different outlet. This isn’t surprising given that many hoverboards were made with cheap components. These were often constructed by unqualified or inexperienced workers. Different parts were often sourced from different suppliers. All it takes is one malfunctioning battery cell to cause a fire.
Even if your hoverboard seems perfectly safe when it’s plugged in, there are still some safety precautions you should take. Never charge your hoverboard overnight. If you plug it in before bed and forget about it. That could potentially lead to an explosion or fire (or worse) during sleep.

If your board has a LED indicator, wait until it changes from red to green before turning on your board (otherwise you risk damaging your battery). This entire process should take no more than 2 hours. It is way easier than trying to use your wall outlet or computer’s USB port.
Dead Remote or Batteries (If you have a Bluetooth Remote Control)
If your hoverboard turns on only when plugged in, then you likely have a dead battery or an issue with your remote control. Both of these issues can be resolved by replacing your batteries or remote control.
Make sure to use quality batteries (e.g., Energizer brand) and check that both your hoverboard’s batteries and remote are fully charged before turning them on for use.
If after replacing either of these components, you still have trouble turning on your hoverboard, there may be a problem with the power switch inside it. Unfortunately, there is no way to fix that from outside of service so you’ll need to take it in for service.
My hoverboard won’t turn on or charge
If your board won’t turn on or charge, there are a few things you can do to try and get it working. If it is unplugged, check to make sure that you have plugged both ends of your charging cable into their respective ports on your hoverboard.
Next, if you are plugging in while your hoverboard is off. Press and hold both buttons at once until it turns on. If pressing both buttons at once doesn’t work, press one button first then quickly follow up with pressing and holding the other button.
Make sure that all connections between your charger/charger port and your hoverboard are connected properly as well.
How to turn on a hoverboard
