How to Troubleshoot Your Jetson Hoverboard Beeping

I got my Jetson hoverboard as an early Christmas present, and I am super happy with it! While it does get me to class faster, it also has one small issue, It keeps beeping at me.

I didn’t think much of it at first, but I can’t stop hearing that beeping sound! What should I do? Is there something wrong with the Jetson? How can I make it stop?! Let’s talk about how to troubleshoot your beeping Jetson hoverboard!

How To Troubleshoot Your Beeping Jetson Hoverboard

Turn your Jetson Hoverboard on

Plug the device into a power outlet and turn on the power switch. If the battery is completely drained, it will take up to four hours for it to fully charge.

Once your device is plugged in and powered on, press and hold down the Power button until you see a green light. The light will flash once before turning solid green.

In general, if your device has been powered off for more than one hour, you should let it charge for at least an hour before powering it back on.

To preserve battery life, we suggest you do not plug your device in when its battery is fully charged or when there is no activity happening after charging for an hour or more.

Charge your Hoverboard

  • Plug the charger into the orange charging port on the back of your hoverboard
  • Plug the charger into a wall socket from the other end
  • The green light will turn on and stay lit while your hoverboard is being charged. The light will blink while charging, but it should be solid when it’s finished
  • If you see a red light, your hoverboard is not charging. If this happens, check that you have plugged in your charger correctly and try again

Make sure sensors are working

Sometimes, the sensors in your hoverboard can get a little dirty and need to be cleaned. This might cause them not to work properly. If your hoverboard is beeping but you’re not sure what’s wrong, first make sure that the sensors are working correctly by completing this checklist.

  •  Check for dirt on the sensor surfaces and wipe off any debris that may be there with a dry cloth or paper towel
  • Make sure the battery connectors are secure and plug them back in if they came loose while you were cleaning your hoverboard
  • Make sure that the power button on top of your hoverboard is turned on

Wear and tear check

If you have power but your board isn’t moving, it’s possible that the beeping is not a sign of an issue. Rather, this could be due to wear and tear.

Remove the back panel and check for any loose connections. If you find anything, tighten it up with a screwdriver.

Check the battery management system (BMS)

The BMS monitors the battery pack and protects it from overcharge, undercharge, short-circuit, or over-discharge. It also controls the charging of the battery pack.

The BMS is connected to the charger and monitors the input voltage and current. If something is wrong with the BMS, it will stop charging or activate a safety cutoff during charging.

These are just some of the things that can cause a beeping noise on your jetson hoverboard. Some other things you may want to check are:

  • Check for any damage such as broken wires
  • Make sure there are no foreign objects obstructing contact points between battery cells
  • Confirm for loose, corroded connectors or terminals

Check the firmware version

Check the firmware version on your hoverboard. If it is the latest version, the beep will likely come from a faulty battery. Replace it with a new one and test to see if that fixes the problem.

To check the version, press and hold down on the power button for 3 seconds until you hear a beep. The first time you do this, there will be no sound.

Press and hold down again after 30 seconds, and there will be a low-pitched beep followed by a high-pitched one to signify that you have accessed the settings menu. Scroll down until you see Board Version.

The number should read 1.1 or higher on most boards; if it does not, update your board’s firmware as soon as possible!

How to Update board’s firmware of Jetson Hoverboard

  • Check for firmware updates. You can do this by going to the Settings tab on your phone, scrolling down, and checking for updates to the Jetpack App. If there are any updates, download them and apply them by following the prompts
  • Check your battery. When you disconnect from a power source, your hoverboard will automatically go into sleep mode. To wake it up, just press one of its buttons or shake it gently until the lights start flashing again
